Our Animal Health Services

In a perfect world, our pets would live as long as we do!  While this is not possible, what we can do is help our pets live the longest, healthiest lives possible.

To this end, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs:

Vaccination Services:
We offer a wide range of vaccinations against endemic and contagious diseases to keep your pet protected from preventable illnesses.  Which vaccines are given and how often they are boostered is determined based on your pet's individual needs, which we will assess and discuss with you during the annual physical exam. Choice of vaccine and frequency will vary based on several factors, including (but not necessarily limited to) your pet's age, health, lifestyle, and degree of environmental risk.

Dogs: Besides the "core" vaccines against Rabies and Distemper/Parvo, we offer vaccinations against Lyme Disease, Kennel Cough, Leptospirosis, and Canine Influenza.

Cats: Besides the "core" vaccines against Rabies and the Feline Upper Respiratory 3-way, we offer vaccines against Feline Leukemia and Hemorrhagic Calicivirus.

Ferrets: We offer Rabies vaccinations for ferrets.

Diagnostic Services:
Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. Testing for glaucoma and vaginal and ear cytology are also available We utilize IDEXX's commercial veterinary laboratory for specialized diagnostics, tumor biopsies and expert consultations.

Radiology:  Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality digital radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.  Digital X-rays can be burned onto a CD on request (a $10 charge will apply).

Electrocardiography:  We provide ECG services on-site as well as remote consultations with off-site cardiology specialists. If your pet needs an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart), we can arrange a referral for you to have this done.

Surgical Services:
Our modern surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures, from spays and neuters of young animals to more complicated surgeries. Our proactive pain management protocol ensures that our patients are kept as comfortable as possible during and after surgery.

Anesthesia:  We utilize the safest available anesthetics, including Sevoflo(tm) gas anesthesia, to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. State-of-the-art monitoring equipment is available for keeping track of the patient's vital signs during anesthetic procedures.  In addition, we offer pre-anesthetic bloodwork to assess the health of your pet's liver and kidneys (the organs primarily responsible for processing anesthetic drugs) prior to surgery.

Dentistry:  Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.  After your pet's dental procedure ask our technicians about strategies for keeping your pet's teeth clean and healthy - several options are available to fit any lifestyle.

Grooming Services:
We offer limited grooming services such as nail trimming, ear cleaning, anal gland expression and trimming of the face, feet and undertail area.  Medicated baths and dematting procedures are also available.

Heartworm Testing and Prevention:
We recommend that all dogs be tested annually for Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichia canis, all of which are screened for by a single, simple in-house bloodtest with results available in 10 minutes or less.  For your dog's protection we recommend year-round maintenance on a monthly heartworm preventive: we have both Interceptor(tm) and Heartgard(tm) available. These monthly preventives not only prevent Heartworm disease, but also control many intestinal parasites your dog is susceptible to.

Flea/Tick Control:
We can counsel you on the best flea and tick control products to meet the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation.

Dogs: We offer Frontline(tm) and K9 Advantix(tm) for control of fleas and ticks. In addition we offer Comfortis(tm), an organic product taken as a pill once a month for flea control.

Cats: We offer Frontline(tm) for flea and tick control. We also offer Advantage(tm) for superior flea protection.

Pharmacy Services:  For your convenience we maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, medicated shampoos, and dietary supplements to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Permanent Identification:
We offer the HomeAgain(tm) microchip for permanent identification of your dog or cat.  Having your pet microchipped is a quick and easy procedure, and greatly increases the chances that you will be reunited with your pet should he or she ever become lost.

Dietary Counseling:
We can provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

Behavioral Counseling:
We can provide you with advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, house soiling and separation anxiety.  For more serious or recalcitrant behavior issues, we can suggest area trainers or a behavior specialist you can consult.
